Given the wide variety of MMIC devices, they have been divided into various categories to facilitate their selection.
This section includes MMICs from the classic MAR..., MAV..., and MSA... categories, used for general-purpose applications and often low-cost.
Given the wide variety of MMIC devices, they have been divided into various categories to facilitate their selection.
This category includes MMICs with a marked characteristic of high reverse isolation between input and output (S12), such as the classic application as a buffer for VCOs and oscillators in general.
These particular integrated circuits are used in the professional sector, for example as final stage or driver in laboratory RF signal generators, front-ends in HF - VHF military receivers such as Watkins - Johnson, Rohde & Schwarz, class A and laboratory amplifiers, etc. They offer better characteristics compared to common MMICs, such as low input/output VSWR, constant phase across the entire band with limited group delay, specified and guaranteed P1dB, IP3, and IP2. They are generally used in broadband circuits, even where fast transient response is required.
Some have the two DC blocking capacitors already built-in, which greatly facilitates their use; other models do not have such capacitors (which must be added externally), which is an advantage when used at low frequencies or for applications requiring a certain degree of customization, considering that their operation could virtually start from DC.
