For whom do not want to use an IC it is possible to build an attenuator using three PIN diodes in a single case with variable range up to about 40dB (depending on frequency), they are suitable up to 2 GHz and very indicated for CAG circuits, modulators, instrumentation and IF receivers, phase shifters, etc… suitable also for HF - VHF and UHF front-end receivers because, thanks to a 1μs lifetime, they have a low intermodulation and low distortion, this solution is also quite cheap.
