This kind of component is used as input filter in receivers or in preamplifiers output, as filter for L.O. but also in transmitters in their low level part of the circuit before the final power amplifier. The impedance is 50Ω so you can also connect them in cascade in order to increase selectivity.
They are similar to helix filters but the resonant cavity is made of microwave ceramic high εr (tipical dielectric costant 30 - 90), that is why they have compact dimensions. These filters consist of λ/4 coaxial resonators, usually high Q TEM, coupled in order to create different resonant cells. The ceramic component and small dimensions guarantee an excellent stability also during mechanical stresses, in fact they are usually employed in applications as mobile radio devices, mobile phones, GPS, etc...
Temperature stability is very good (typical NP0 ±5 ppm/°C), they are also suitable for small powers (0.5 - 2 W). Typical insertion loss is 0.5 dB. Due to their capability to hold small powers, these filters are also available in diplexer filter for RTX devices, in fact some of them are made of the simple passband filter of the diplexer.
