Professional low noise variable gain amplifier, mainly used when a precise IF variable attenuation system is needed, for use in RF and IF with AGC, it contains a complete set of resistive attenuators with a range of 42dB, the variable gain can be regulated from -11dB to +31dB with 90 MHz bandwidth (so with 2 stages a dynamic range of 80dB is reached) or from +9 to +51dB with 9 MHz bandwidth, it is suitable both for professional receivers and measurement intruments, attenuator precision ±0.5 dB, low noise 1.3 nV / √Hz, IF, audio and video applications, SMD SOIC-8 package.
On VHF Communications magazine 3-2007 is reported a very exaustive explanation about how a IF circuit works with 80dB of dynamic range and AGC.
